Preparing for Excellence

These test preparation workbooks, designed in accordance with the most recent New York State learning standards, succinctly yet thoroughly prepare 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders for the annual New York State English Language Arts Assessment. Using key terms, skills, strategies, and application activities, students will be prepared for the state test and beyond. Students will gain experience and proficiency as they master short answer and multiple choice questions, work on listening and note-taking skills, and edit several passages. Each book ends with a full scale simulation using the same format as the actual assessment. The teacher edition contains item analyses and rubrics to assist teachers in developing diagnostic information. Preparing for Excellence is one of the few books in this genre that contains a full, comprehensive listening section.

Listen, Take Note!

The three books in the Listen, Take Note! series are designed specifically for teaching students the skills and strategies of listening and note-taking. Dispensing with the premise that students simply develop such skills in the course of everyday instruction, these workbooks provide teachers with the means to teach—and students the skills to learn—listening and note-taking techniques. The books are available in three different levels, beginning with a version for 2nd graders. Read-aloud passages appear in the teacher editions; students respond in their own consumable workbook. Please note that while the content of these workbooks conforms to New York State standards, the Listen, Take Note! series is suitable and appropriate for ALL primary, elementary, and middle school students in any English-speaking locale.
